Stribling’s Battery

Join The Field artillery !

Enlist in the Markham Guards, Captain Stribling’s Battery – Northern Virginia’s premier Civil War Artillery reenactment unit. Learn about this crucial time in our American history by living it and experiencing it firsthand.  We are a family oriented unit that values authenticity and honoring our ancestors.  New recruits are always welcome as are seasoned veterans. Training is provided and no prior experience is necessary.  Our Headquarters is located in Northern Virginia, and our members come from Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and throughout Virginia.

Our battery has two 3″ Ordnance Rifles and limbers and portray both Confederate and Union Civil War artillery units.  Our unit members come from West Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Maryland, and throughout Virginia.  Each year we participate in 10-15 events ranging from battle reenactments, living history programs, formal artillery salutes for ceremonies and funerals, and cannon firing demonstrations for the public.

All of our members are certified by the National Civil War Artillery Association (NCWAA) and undergo recertification every two years to maintain our proficiency. You can check out the NCWAA website and download a copy of the artillery drill manual to familiarize yourself with the different crew positions, their duties, and loading/firing procedures. When possible, we also use the more historically accurate Paten Artillery Drill.
